Members are receiving attention for their recently published paper Drs Rangaramanujam Kannan (primary appointment in Ophthalmology) and Sujatha Kannan (primary appointment in Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine), each members of the Center for Nanomedicine at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, are receiving significant attention for their recently published paper showing a breakthrough use of Nanomedicine for the treatment of neuroinflammation. In a paper published April 18th in Science Translational Medicine, the Kannans showed that the effects of Cerebral Palsy could be reversed in a rabbit model of the disease by delivering anti-inflammatory drugs in a highly targeted manner through the blood-brain barrier to cells involved in the inflammatory process in the CNS, specifically activated microglia and astrocytes.
